Thank You’s, Congratulations, Cuts to Education, Vote by Mail, Save the Dates…..

Jennifer O’Donnell:
Thank you to  Rocky River resident Jennifer O’Donnell for stepping forward to run for Judge in the Court of Common Pleas.  Jennifer embodies the qualities of experience, kindness, and compassion that we seek in any candidate.  We are proud that she is a Democratic precinct leader in our community and an active member of the Club; and we will be proud to support her candidacy again in the future.  Thank you, Jennifer!
.
Chris Glassburn:
Thank you to North Olmsted Councilman Chris Glassburn for helping to spearhead the making of medical face shields that are donated to Northeast Ohio hospitals and safety forces.  They do not charge, and recently dropped off face shield donations to police and fire departments in North Olmsted and Rocky River.  What began with North Olmsted residents and Maple Intermediate School PTA members has grown to 128 volunteers in eight counties.  To read more about their efforts, click HERE.  To make a much needed donation, click HERE.
.

Rocky River Voters:

Congratulations to you, the voters.  Ninety two percent of Rocky River Democrats requested a vote by mail ballot!  We should be proud of our civic engagement and patriotism.  You can begin completing a vote by mail application NOW for the November 3rd General Election.  It is not too early!  See additional details, below, under “Election 2020.”

Graduating Class of Rocky River High School:
Congratulations to this year’s graduating class of Rocky River High School!  The actor Tom Hanks called the 2020 graduates of Wright State University the “chosen ones” in his virtual valedictory speech.  While graduates everywhere this year will mark their lives in terms of before and after Covid-19, we know that our graduates will prosper and succeed in ways we can only imagine.

DeWine’s Cuts to Education:
Under Governor DeWine’s planned budget cuts, Rocky River and Westlake are among the top 20 school districts in the state to sustain the largest cuts.   Rocky River will lose $805,051; a 55% reduction from the state’s funding pool.  The State of Ohio has a budget surplus of $2.7 BILLION.  This surplus is your tax dollars that DeWine believes should be saved for a rainy day.  If there ever was a rainy day, this is it!

CAMPAIGN RELATED: U.S. CENSUS AND CLUB DUES

U.S. Census:
We’ve voted; now let’s stand up and be counted.  67.6% of Rocky River households have taken part in the 2020 Census, but we still need everyone’s help.  An accurate count brings more federal funds to our city for schools, health care, road construction, and more.  Also, political districts at all levels are drawn based on population data.  Please remind family and friends to complete the census by returning the form they receive in the mail.  It’s fast and easy; and can also be completed online and by phone.  To go to the U.S. Census website, click HERE or call 844-330-2020 every day from 7 AM until 2 AM.
.

Rocky River Democratic Club Dues:
The entire Club is volunteer-driven and all member dues are used to promote Democratic candidates. You probably received a door hanger or postcard produced and distributed by the Club.  It’s at our local level where grassroots efforts take place.  This is the time of year we ask for member renewals.  Dues can be paid online on our website, or the form can be downloaded from our website and dues paid by check.  To renew, please click HERE. Thank you!

OHIO PRIMARY ELECTION

On March 17th, the Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) filed legal action regarding the Ohio Primary.  For complete information, click HERE.  Key points of the legal action are:

1) the ODP factually asserts that the Executive Branch of the Government of the State of Ohio does not have the authority to set elections; the authority resides with the General Assembly
2) the ODP is seeking to allow absentee ballot voting through a final date of April 28th

Complete details can be found in the link, above.

Under the current directives set by the Ohio Governor and  the Ohio Director of Health, absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 1st; and in-person voting will take place on June 2nd.  Visit the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections website HERE for complete information.

We will provide further updates when the legal case is resolved.
