Meeting Next Tuesday November 26th!!

Positive Messages

For those that weren’t in attendance at our last meeting, Patrick O’Connor shared some encouraging words from Liz Gerstenhaber, who was indispensable in assisting in our GOTV campaigns; her message is as follows:

Thank you so much to all the people who helped stuff packets and envelopes, and of course those of you who distributed literature. Thanks also for financial contributions to the club that helped us reach so many voters in a meaningful way. We targeted households that included infrequent voters who are mainly unaffiliated with either party, but who show a likelihood of being pro-choice. We also targeted households that have any newly registered voters. Rocky River voters are about 1/3 Democrat, 1/3 Republican, and 1/3 unaffiliated. We know how the first 2/3 will probably vote, and that unaffiliated third is critical to reach. All households that we targeted got an absentee ballot application, a pre-addressed envelope for sending it to the BOE, and a customized Rocky River slate card. Many of the individual houses we gave literature to also got a small piece of literature showing the policy differences between Democrats and Republicans over the last few years, a card about the importance of electing Democratic State Supreme Court justices, and some got a card promoting Rocky River’s own Kira Krivosh for Judge. We reached 980 voters in apartments and just under 3000 “walkable” households. This means we potentially connected with well over 5000 voters when you consider that very often a household has multiple voters. Because of this team effort, all of this was finished well before the deadline to submit absentee ballot forms, and in many cases, even before early voting began.

Judge William Vodrey, our longtime friend and supporter, also graciously shared his thoughts on the election, which we hope will bring you some solace and comfort in these difficult times; his message is as follows:

Many thanks to everyone in the Rocky River Dems. As an American and as a Democrat, in that order, I’m very discouraged by the election outcome. I’m gravely concerned about what the next four years will hold for us all. But I know, as a student of history, that we’ve been through much worse as a nation, including a Civil War, two world wars and a Great Depression. It won’t be easy, but we’ll get through this, too, together. We must, and we shall. Keep your chin up and don’t lose hope. Be resolute in defending all that you hold dear. Stand firm with your family, friends and allies. Hold fast to the Constitution. Obey the law. Don’t ever stop striving for a better America – and for “a more perfect Union.”
