NEW DATE FOR OHIO PRIMARY: April 28, 2020

NEW DATE FOR OHIO PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY
TUESDAY, APRIL 28, 2020
.
What you need to know:
.
On Wednesday, March 25th, the Ohio Legislature voted to extend the Ohio Primary Election through April 28.  This action supersedes and replaces the June 2nd directive by Governor DeWine.

The April 28th election will be conducted exclusively through mailed-in absentee ballotsThere will be no in-person voting for this primary election, though exceptions are being made in certain cases.  For complete background, see an article in the Ohio Capital Journal HERE.

.

YOU HAVE ALREADY VOTED:
Nothing further needs to be done.  Your ballot has been retained and it will be counted on April 28th.  You can track your ballot on the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections website HERE

YOU HAVE NOT VOTED:
Vote by mail is a two-step process:

1) You must submit an APPLICATION to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections (BOE) to obtain a ballot. The BOE verifies that you are eligible to vote through the application.

2) After verification, you will receive a blank BALLOT in the mail from the BOE.

The ballot must be postmarked by April 27 to count.

Please note: You must be proactive to receive an application.  One will NOT automatically be sent  to you.

HOW DO I OBTAIN AN APPLICATION?
There are three ways that you can obtain the vote-by-mail APPLICATION:

1) Download and print the application from the Board of Elections website HERE

2) Contact the Board of Elections and ask them to mail the application to you.  Call the BOE at (216) 443-8683

3) Send us an email at [email protected].  We would be happy to drop-off the application at your home while practicing social distancing.

HOW DO I OBTAIN A BALLOT?
You must first submit an APPLICATION before you can receive a ballot.  Please see above.

CAN I REGISTER TO VOTE?
If you missed the original February 18 voter registration deadline, you are not eligible to vote in this primary election.  Even though the date of the election has changed, the deadline for registration has not changed.  We will keep you posted if/when there are any updates on this issue.

I HAVE QUESTIONS
If you have any questions about vote-by-mail, please send us an email at [email protected] and we’ll respond promptly.

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Remember to vote your complete ballot, including for judicial candidates!  See the sample ballot of endorsed candidates, below.  Please ignore the March 16 on or before date.

OHIO PRIMARY ELECTION

On March 17th, the Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) filed legal action regarding the Ohio Primary.  For complete information, click HERE.  Key points of the legal action are:

1) the ODP factually asserts that the Executive Branch of the Government of the State of Ohio does not have the authority to set elections; the authority resides with the General Assembly
2) the ODP is seeking to allow absentee ballot voting through a final date of April 28th

Complete details can be found in the link, above.

Under the current directives set by the Ohio Governor and  the Ohio Director of Health, absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 1st; and in-person voting will take place on June 2nd.  Visit the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections website HERE for complete information.

We will provide further updates when the legal case is resolved.

Icebreaker Wind Project – Take Action to Help Fight Climate Change!

Each of us tries to do our part by using LED bulbs, purchasing energy-efficient appliances, etc. Cleveland now has the potential to make an impact on a larger scale with the implementation of the Icebreaker Wind Project.

Icebreaker Wind Project is a 6-turbine wind farm in the waters of Lake Erie off the coast of Cleveland. It will generate clean, renewable energy and contribute to our area’s economy with more than 500 construction jobs and a projected economic impact of $168M.

The Icebreaker Wind Project would be only the second offshore wind project in the entire United States, and it offers Ohio the opportunity to become a national leader in an emerging industry. It has earned all required Federal approvals, albeit requires a final certificate from the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB).

PLEASE CLICK HERE and print the letter to Sam Randazzo, Chairman of the OPSB, urging him to grant the certificate. Simply sign your name, address an envelope, and drop it in the mail. It will take a minute and cost a first class stamp, and it is worth the effort for this important cause.

During this season of giving, there is no greater gift we can give to our families than to join our voices together and be heard about the most important issue facing our planet. We, the residents of greater Cleveland, can make a difference on climate change! So again, CLICK HERE to print and send the letter.

Thank you!
