Postcard Action Night!!!
Your help and efforts are SINCERELY APPRECIATED!!!

At our regular meeting on Tuesday, September 27th, the Rocky River Democratic Club endorsed the Rocky River School District’s Levy that will be on the ballot for voting in the General Election this upcoming November.

This levy is vital to maintaining high-quality academics, school safety, and activities and athletics programs for all students. It will also support current staffing levels to maintain class sizes, allow the district to follow refresh plans for instructional materials (e.g. textbooks, ChromeBooks), and maintain and repair district equipment.

For more information, visit the School District’s site for the levy HERE or feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] for questions.

At our last meeting, Hannah Servedio from Pro-Choice Ohio gave us a great presentation on the work that Pro-Choice Ohio is doing and the messaging that they are getting out the population of Ohio in educating everyone that abortion is an issue for everyone to rally around. As she mentioned, they hold monthly training sessions called Ramp Up for Repro that engage and educate participants in how to address and advocate for reproductive rights issues. Whether you are new to repro work, or have been volunteering for a long time, this training is a great if way to get more information and deepen your commitment. Their monthly 90-minute Ramp Up for Repro trainings will further acquaint you with political advocacy tactics, repro lingo, and help you find your niche in the movement. Every month, they dive into movement ecology, abortion messaging, the current landscape of abortion access, and provide concrete steps for you to take action! Please consider attending and help us to solidify our messaging for this upcoming election season!

Register for the Wednesday, August 24th (6:00 pm) Ramp Up for Repro

Please consider attending the fundraiser for Matthew Diemer, our Democratic Candidate for Congress, as he is hosted by Indivisible Strongsville next month!!

Matt is running for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, which will represent us in the US Congress. The seat is being vacated by Bob Gibbs, a Republican, who has held the seat since 2011. This district has also been gerrymandered, so it is EXTREMELY imperative that we support him and his campaign to the fullest to ensure that our Democratic voices in Congress. This fundraiser is a great way to meet and connect with Matt, learn about his platform, ways you can get involved with the campaign, and make sure his run is a SUCCESS!! Please consider attending and lending your support!!

July 26th Meeting!!

HELLO ROCKY RIVER DEMOCRATS!!
Please Join Us!
For the next meeting of the

Rocky River Democratic Club
Tuesday, July 26th at 7:00 PM

Alternatives to Despair in Post-Roe Ohio

Via Zoom and In-Person at the Rocky River Library

This meeting is intended to educate and inform the group about life, activism, and options in post-Roe Ohio. Our speakers are well-versed in how to understand and combat the radical voices in the Federal government and Ohio Statehouse that are actively working to strip the rights and freedoms away from women, especially, and all Americans alike. Their insight will serve to help us analyze how exactly these draconian measures will manifest in our daily lives, how they restrict the basic freedoms we have come to rely on, and what we can do to fight back.

FEATURED SPEAKERS

Hannah Servedio, Pro-Choice Ohio

Hannah is a Senior Organizer with Pro-Choice Ohio and has extensive non-profit experience, most recently working in the domestic and sexual violence fields. She is skilled in many facets of advocacy work including educational programming, volunteer management, training facilitation, and community mobilization/engagement. An enthusiastic volunteer herself, Hannah is a lead escort with a Northeast Ohio abortion clinic, a CASA/GAL with Summit County Juvenile Court and an active participant in a variety of additional causes she feels passionately about. She will speak to us about how to navigate the post-Roe environment in Ohio and the US, how we can help those affected by the ruling, how to message our cause effectively, and engage our electorate and looks forward to taking questions from the group.

Meaghan Winter, Author

Meaghan is a freelance magazine writer and author of “All Politics Is Local: Why Progressives Must Fight for the States.” Her work has appeared in many publications including Best American Magazine Writing, The New York Times, ESSENCE, New York Magazine, Dissent, Cosmopolitan, Bloomberg Businessweek, Slate, The Believer and The Kenyon Review. Meaghan has taught writing at Columbia, The New School, and CUNY. She lives in New York City. Meaghan will draw on her research to discuss how we can continue to fight for reproductive freedom. She is greatly looking forward to engaging with and taking questions from the group.
