Volunteer to Get Out the Vote!!

With the election drawing near–we need YOUR help!! WE NEED TO KEEP OUT MAJORITY ON CITY COUNCIL, AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!! The County Party is sending sample ballots to a broad swath of progressives who voted in one of the last 2 municipal elections. This includes people who were only motivated to come out because of the abortion ballot initiative in 2023, and it will leave out a lot of voters who only vote in even years. Thus, we are targeting the folks who lean pretty left, but need a reminder that there is actually an election every year, and that it’s worth their attention. To that end, we are distributing door hangers on about 1000 doors and mailing literature to about 500 apartments. We’re doing this right before the election since we’re targeting people who really need that reminder at the last-minute.

Bottom Line— If we get a good portion of our voters out, we win. Starting October 30th, we’d like to distribute door hangers. If you are able to put in a couple hours between next Thursday, 10/30 and Sunday evening,11/2, please sign up using this link!!

We really need as many people as possible to help us engage our Democratic brothers and sisters in Rocky River–we’ve shown that with good engagement and a little elbow grease we can make and KEEP Rocky River BLUE!! Please use the link HERE to sign up and we will get you everything you need!! We can’t thank you enough in advance for helping us GET OUT THE VOTE!!

Volunteer to Work the Polls!!

We are always in need of Democrats to provide poll coverage, handing out Democratic sample ballots! If you are willing or able, or know someone is, please visit the sign up form HERE!! Thanks in advance for all your help!!

Stand Up Saturdays!!

Some reminders:

  • We must stay on the public sidewalk, not block other pedestrians, and off the Crocker Park private property.
  • Bring signs that reflect what you are feeling and issues that are important to you! We have a few extra signs if needed.

Please know that there may be counter protesters and hostile calls from passing cars. Ours is a peaceful protest! Celebrate each other and our supportive, enthusiastic honkers! Please do not engage with the counter protesters–which is exactly what they want!

Stay hydrated and dress for Ohio weather! We have both shade and sunny places to stand–or bring a chair!

Stand Up Saturdays is organized by a group of concerned citizens who, like you, believe in the power and community building of peaceful protests.

Protect America’s Workforce Act!!

Editorial Articles!!

Please take a moment to read this insightful article HERE from Robert Reich that was shared by one of our members–it’s important to make sure that we continue to demand more from our leaders…beyond just NOT being Trump!!

A very insightful article HERE and this podcast HERE about the meaning and value of protests!

Bride Rose shared some really concerning updates on the new legislation regarding property taxes currently in the Statehouse at our July meeting–the Plain Dealer published some good information about how we got to this terrible point where we are underfunding schools in favor of supporting billionaires. Please read them HERE and HERE.

Membership Drive!

We are still in our membership drive for 2025! If you have not renewed your membership, see one of us at the next meeting, or you can renew online HERE

Due to the rising costs of postage, scheduling of events, and other club duties, we unfortunately have had to raise our membership rates only slightly–individual memberships have increased to $30 (from $20), and family memberships have increased to $40 (from $30)–senior and student memberships will remain the same, at $10 and $5, respectively. While we hate to have to raise rates, it will go a long way to help us stage events, including postcard parties and community gatherings, maintaining the website, room rentals, printing, and sponsoring get-out-the-vote events and yard sign drives!

As always, if you can add more, it will cover someone who can afford less.  Everyone is welcome at the amount you are comfortable contributing.

Fair Districts!!

Ohio will be drawing a new congressional map this fall. This is because the congressional map drawn in 2022 did not have bipartisan sign-off and therefore could be used for only two election cycles.

Statehouse Democrats have submitted their congressional map proposal. The Ohio legislature has also created an online portal for Ohioans to submit their own draft congressional district maps for the mapmakers to consider. The first deadline for congressional mapmaking is September 30.

Before that deadline, Ohio’s redistricting advocates are coming together on September 17 in a show of force to say loud and clear: the people of Ohio will never stop fighting for fair maps and fair representation!
