Would you like to help plan our Summer Party?

https://forms.gle/UDFAwM1JxtrcTVbm7

Members of our coalition of 228 organizations from across Ohio plan to show up to say, ‘“NO to HJR1.” On Weds. May 3, we will march to the House Chamber so we can make it clear that we stand together to defend “one person, one vote.” More details when you RSVP.

DEMOCRACY NEEDS YOU!

TAKE ACTION: Say NO to:
Ohio House Bill 1
This massive tax bill would flatten the state income tax to 2.75% and modify property taxation; would gut local government and public school funding.
This is the state takeover of public education that would create a new Department of Education and Workforce.
Ohio House Bill 6
This bill would ban transgender female students from female sports teams by requiring “single-sex” sports teams for K-12, college, and university sports.
Possible vote by the House Higher Education Committee on May 3, 10:30 am
Ohio House Bill 68
Bans gender-affirming care for minors, including referrals for mental health care treatment, exempts intersex people or people with disorders of sexual development Learn More
Contact House Public Health Policy Committee HERE
Senate Bill 17
This would inject incomplete, biased perspectives about “free market capitalism” into high school financial literacy standards. Students need an honest, complete understanding of all market systems taught in appropriate social studies classes,
Senate Bill 83
This is a higher education bill that bans mandatory DEI training, controversial topics, partnerships with China, and collective bargaining; requires specific material for history courses; requires reporting and publishing of violations and performance evaluations; withholds state funding and tenure for violations.

Action Items for your week.

Hello Dem Friends!

Lots of news about the House Joint Resolution 1 from the people at Fair Districts and our own Rocky River Resident, Mark Szabo who’s Letter to the Editor of cleveland.com

An explanation, if you need one, from Fair Districts:

“Protecting access to direct democracy through citizen-led ballot initiatives is our number one priority in the fight for fair maps. That’s because we will not end gerrymandering without going back to get signatures and putting an issue on the ballot. House Joint Resolution 1 seeks to make that task virtually impossible. It’s a shameless power grab that will lock in minority rule in Ohio.

“Even all four living former Ohio Governors (2 R, 2 D) are speaking out against HJR1! Their opposition shines a light on just how egregious and damaging it would be to take power away from Ohio citizens in an August special election. With your help, we hope to be able to prevent a vote in the House and stop this resolution in its tracks.”

The Letter by Mark Szabo! Which is awesome! Way to go, Mark!!

Mark Szabo cleveland.comAnd Action Items from Fair Districts:

There will be a hearing Thursday, 4/27 at 10am in the House Government Oversight Committee, room 313, to hear opponent testimony against SB92, the bill to create an August special election in order to ram through the constitutional amendment that will take away our access to direct democracy.

Here are the actions you can take!

Action Items for Easter Weekend!

Hello Friends!

Happy holidays to all who celebrate!

H. J. R. No. 1 :

Please call Tom Patton TODAY to tell him not to take away our voice.  If he signs this petition it means he is willing to bypass the committee process in order to raise the threshold for a citizen led ballot initiative to 60%, and put it up to a vote in a special August election that will cost the state $20 million (after they just banned it them in the Voter Suppression Law.)  We need to make some noise about this undemocratic move.
